Our not-so-fancy, but oh-so-good Fiery Red Pepper Soup is just what you need. Did we throw in some chili powder and harissa for a flavor boost – because why not? And don’t even get us started on the crispy croutons. They’re optional, but why would anyone say no to a satisfying crunch?


  • 2 finely chopped red onions
  • 2 finely chopped carrots
  • Olive oil as needed
  • 2 roughly chopped garlic cloves
  • 200g jarred roasted red peppers, drained and roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp rose harissa paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder (or any other chilli powder)
  • 850ml low-salt vegetable stock
  • 4 tbsp natural yogurt
  • 100g slightly stale bread, cut into cubes
  • Heat oil in a large saucepan and cook the sonion and carrots with a pinch of salt for 5-6 mins, stirring frequently.
  • Stir in the garlic and peppers, and cook for another minute.
  • Add the harissa paste, Danfe cumin seeds and chilli powder, and cook for 1 min, stirring. 
  • Add the stock and turn up the. Bring it to a boil and cook for 15-18 minutes until the vegetables are soft. Let it cool.
  • In the meanwhile prepare the croutons. 
  • For the croutons ​​take the bread cubes and drizzle a little olive oil on them. Evenly coat all the bread cubes but don’t soak them in oil.
  • Distribute them evenly on a baking sheet and bake them in an oven until they become golden and crisp. 
  • Blend the soup mixture until smooth. 
  • Season and pour into bowls. Top it with the yogurt, scatter over the croutons, and enjoy this hearty soup with your loved one.

  • 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 1/2 cup minced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup paneer
  • 2 minced cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of atta flour
  • ½ cup maida flour
  • Warm water as needed
  • Sauté garlic and ginger in sesame oil until fragrant.
  • Add and cook the cabbage, mushrooms, green onions, and mashed paneer until the vegetables are tender.
  • Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, salt, and pepper. Let the filling cool.
  • Make a dough using flour and warm water.
  • Roll the dough into a log and cut it into small pieces. Roll each piece into a thin circle.
  • Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each dough circle and seal the edges as per the desired pattern.
  • Arrange the dim sums on a steamer basket lined with some oil.
  • Steam for 10-12 minutes until the dim sums are cooked through.
  • Plate these homemade dim sums with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, a splash of rice vinegar, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

  • 250g maida flour
  • 125g of butter, chilled and diced
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1 vanilla pod, seeds scraped (optional)
  • 100g jam, fruit curd or marmalade of your choice
  • Mix the flour, butter and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
  • Add the vanilla seeds and eggs when the mixture looks and feels like fresh breadcrumbs.
  • Add in ao tbs of cold water, then bring the dough together in one lump with your hands. Do not knead it too much. 
  • Add another tbsp of water if required.
  • Wrap in cling film and let it chill in the fridge for about 30 mins.
  • Heat your oven to 200 degrees celsius.
  • Now butter a 12-hole tart tin and dust your work surface with some flour.
  • Unwrap and roll out the chilled pastry and using a fluted round cutter, cut out 12 circles, big enough to line the holes in the tin. 
  • Pour a tsp of your chosen filling into each one.
  • To make it extra special you can cut out little pastry hearts and pop them on top.
  • Bake them for about 15-18 minutes or until golden and the filling starts to bubble a little.
  • Let it cool in the tin for a few minutes, then carefully transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Enjoy these easy jam tarts which will instantly become a family favourite.

The best part? You can bake these delectable delights in less than half an hour, especially if you opt for the convenience of ready-made pastry.
