There is no need to introduce Pani Puri. It is one of the most popular street snacks and a crowd-pleaser among all ages. Without a doubt, it is an Indian favorite and always appeals to all flavor palettes. In different parts of the country, Pani Puri is known by different names. Among them are ‘Golgappa’ in the North, ‘Puchka’ in Calcutta, ‘Gup Shup’ in Orissa, and ‘Pani Puri’ in the rest of the country. The puris are made up of small spheres made from semolina or wheat flour that is rolled out into very small sheets and deep-fried to a golden brown color. They are then stuffed with mashed potatoes, boiled chickpeas, chopped onions, and sweet chutney, and then dipped in chilled mint tamarind water (the pani) and eaten whole. - Uncooked Paani Puri 10 nos
- 1 cup chopped potato (boiled)
- ¼ cup chopped onion
- ½ cup curd (well beaten)
- 2 tbsp tamarind chutney
- 2 tbsp green chutney
- Sev as needed
- Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
- 3 green chilies (finely chopped)
- 1 tbsp cumin powder, roasted
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Chat masala as needed
- Black salt as needed
- Mash the boiled potatoes in a bowl with a spoon.
- Fry the puris in cooking oil in a pan on medium to high heat. Set aside to cool.
- Poke a large hole in the top-middle side (thin side) of each cooked puri for stuffing. Place them on the plate.
- Fill each puri with 1 tbsp of mashed potatoes. Spread the chopped onion and green chilies on top.
- With the help of a spoon, drizzle a little bit of tamarind chutney and green chutney. Put some curd on each puri.
- Sprinkle chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, and black salt on top.
- Sprinkle the sev on top and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve immediately!
Tawa Paneer Chaat
Paneer is a very healthy option for kids, and this recipe gives it a twist that kids will enjoy and love. The crispy puris pair well with the soft paneer to make a wonderful appetizer.
- 15 to 20 Uncooked Pani Puri
- 250g paneer
- 3 tbsp oil
- 2 chopped onions
- ½ tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tsp green chilies
- 3 tbsp each yellow, green, and red bell peppers
- ½ cup tomato puree
- 2 tsp pav bhaji masala
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chaat masala
- ½ tsp white pepper powder
- Chopped coriander leaves
- Bhujia as needed
- Tamarind chutney
- Salt to taste
- ½ tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Cut the paneer into cubes. Place the oil in a pan and add the paneer with a little salt. Fry until golden brown and set aside.
- To that same oil, add the chopped onion and cook until translucent. Add the ginger-garlic paste, combine well, and add the bell peppers.
- Combine salt, turmeric powder, sugar, pav bhaji masala, and tomato puree and stir well to combine.
- Fill the fried pani puris with the mixture.
- Sprinkle pepper powder, fried paneer, chaat masala, and lemon juice into the fried pani puri mixture. Turn off the heat and sprinkle bhujia and coriander leaves over the top.
- Serve it with tamarind chutney!
This delicious pani puri chaat from Mumbai is known as Dahi puri or Dahi batata puri. This chaat is the right combination of sweet, sour, tangy, spicy, and crispy.
- 10-15 Uncooked Pani Puri (fried)
- 2-3 medium-sized peeled and boiled potatoes
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 small tomato, finely chopped (optional)
- Finely chopped coriander leaves
- ½ cup curd
- ½ cup mint coriander chutney
- ½ cup sweet tamarind chutney
- ½ cup red chili garlic chutney
- Some sev
- Pomegranate seeds
- Chaat masala as required
- Cumin powder
- Black salt
- Chop the potatoes, then finely chop the onions, tomatoes, and coriander leaves. Beat the curd with a wire whisk until smooth.
- Arrange the puris on a plate. The number of puris to be served on each plate is up to you. Separate the puris from the center to make room for the potatoes and chutneys.
- Fill the puris with the chopped potato.
- On top of the potatoes, place the chopped onions and tomatoes. The puris can now be sprinkled with chaat masala, cumin powder, red chili powder, and black salt.
- Add the green chutney, sweet chutney, and red chutney to the stuffed puris. You can top the chutneys according to your taste and preferences. Add the sev on top so that each puri is covered with it.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and pomegranate seeds. Serve immediately!
Aam Panna Pani Puri
An original twist on the classic pani puri recipe using Aam Panna.
- 2 grated carrots
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 raw mango
- 1 cucumber
- 6 pieces Uncooked Pani Puri (fried)
- 1 bowl sweet chutney
- Some sev
- Chaat masala
- Arrange the puris on a plate.
- Put the chopped carrots, tomatoes, raw mango and cucumbers in a bowl. You may also add sweet and khar chutney to taste.
- Fill each puri with the aam mixture. Add chaat masala and sev and serve!
